I enjoy debates. Whether in business discussions, strategy meetings, or friendly conversations, I don’t mind pushing my point strongly when I believe in something. But there is one place in life where I consciously choose calm over reaction.

Like every parent-child relationship, we also have moments where opinions don’t match. Sometimes discussions become debates, and debates slowly start becoming arguments.
Earlier, my instinct was to explain more, defend my point better, or try to “win” the conversation logically.
But over time, I realized something important: Even if I win the argument, I lose something in the relationship. And that loss is never worth it. So now, in those moments, I step back.
I think maturity is not about winning every discussion.
It is about knowing which relationships are more valuable than your ego in that moment.
As parents, leaders, and even friends, maybe we all need to ask ourselves sometimes: “Do I want to prove a point… or protect a connection?”
